Wang Shuang's Paris Saint-Germain documentary series proves a big hit
The popularity of Paris Saint-Germain’s Chinese footballer Wang Shuang - the current AFC Women's Player of the Year – simply keeps on growing. The first three episodes of the documentary series, available on the club’s social media channels, have proved a huge success with over 8 million video views in China.
Wang Shuang joined Paris Saint-Germain last year and the series follows her daily life in the French capital. The Chinese midfielder said: “It’s important for me to be able to give back to my fans in China and share with them my journey in Paris. They’ve supported me throughout my career and I always enjoy reading and hearing their messages of support. I’ll continue to give my best on the pitch for both club and country.”
Sebastien Wasels, Paris Saint-Germain Managing Director Asia Pacific, said: “Wang Shuang is a great ambassador for the Club. She’s an icon in her home country and that popularity has reflected a growing fan base and increased engagement across Asia. We’re proud Wang Shuang is the first player from China to play for Paris Saint-Germain.”
The documentary has been broadcast across multiple platforms in China, including Weibo, WeChat, Douyin, Toutiao, and Miaopai. The first three episodes totaled 8 million video views across all platforms, including 2 million viewers and over 100,000 engagements on popular short-form video platform Douyin.
As part of the documentary series, Wang Shuang is filmed at various locations in the city of Paris, including the club’s training ground and stadium. Wang Shuang also samples local delicacies and visits famous landmarks, giving the viewers insights, in Chinese, into one of the world’s most famous cities renowned for food, fashion, football and more.
Wang Shuang became the first ever Chinese player to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, and the results have seen positive impact for the club in China. Paris Saint-Germain has seen their social media accounts grow over 650,000 followers in the past 12 months.
