Paris Saint-Germain women's players head to the states

Women’s Team

The Paris Saint-Germain women’s squad flew out to Louisville on Sunday 15th August to play in The Women’s Cup. During this pre-season tournament, the reigning French champions – who are being coached by Didier Ollé-Nicolle this season – will play against Bayern Munich and an American team, either RC Louisville or Chicago Red Star.

The Parisiennes will cross the Atlantic for their second ever pre-season tour of the United States, after playing in the ICC in 2018.

This time, the women’s squad will include three medallists from the Tokyo Olympics. Two of Canada’s Olympic champions, Jordyn Huitema and Ashley Lawrence, and a new recruit, Swedish silver-medallist Amanda Ilestedt, will be among the 24-strong Rouge & Bleu line-up.

“We are delighted to be able to round off our pre-season training with this tour of the United States and by playing in The Women’s Cup,” announced Ulrich Ramé, General Manager of the women’s squad. “The tournament will pit us against some experienced and talented teams. This challenge will enable us to hone our preparations ahead of the championships. We will use this trip as an opportunity to meet our supporters and treat the squad to some non-sporting activities that will be beneficial to them over the coming season.”

The Parisian club’s popularity in the United States has not stopped growing over the last 10 years. Following the tours by the men’s and women’s squads in recent years, Rouge & Bleu fan clubs have popped up in a number of American cities and several hundreds of thousands of Americans now follow the club on social media.

Last season, Paris Saint-Germain stepped up its presence on American soil by opening a permanent store in Los Angeles, the first European club to do so. At the same time, the club is continuing to expand its network of football schools. PSG Academies now welcome children aged 4 to 17 in Miami, Houston, Los Angeles and Phoenix.
