Romane Dicko World Champion

Paris Saint-Germain judoka Romane Dicko has been crowned world champion (+78 kg) for the first time in her career in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) on Wednesday.

After defeating Beatriz Souza (BRA) with an ippon in the final, Romane took the gold medal in the 2022 world championship, winning a global gold for the first time in her career at 23 years old.

Born in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine) in the Paris region, she won a third European title in Sofia (Bulgaria) a few months ago. At the worlds, she disposed of China’s Xin Su in her opening bout, then the Netherlands’ Marit Kamps in the quarters, and compatriot Julia Tolofua in an all-French semi.

Romane Dicko is the second Paris Saint-Germain Judo athlete to pick up a medal at these world championships after Amandine Buchard (-52 kg) took bronze last Friday.

During the Tokyo Olympics, Romane Dicko claimed individual bronze (+78kg) and team gold.

“We’re very proud of this world title,” said Djamel Bouras, Paris Saint-Germain Judo President. “Romain has again proven the best in her category, performing at an excellent level throughout. This world crown caps a great year during which she won numerous titles, including a third European gold, aged just 23. Romane keeps on impressing us and improving each season. The club will continue helping her in her development, which – we hope – will lead to great things at the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
