Romane Dicko extends her contract with Paris Saint-Germain Judo
Paris Saint-Germain Judo are pleased to announce that Romane Dicko's contract has been extended for three seasons. The two-time Tokyo Olympic medallist, who competes in the over 78kg category, will be with the Club until 31 August 2025.
In 2016, Romane Dicko became French Youth Champion in +70 kg and French Senior Champion in +78 kg, even though she had not yet obtained her black belt. The same year, she also won the European Youth Championships, in individual and team, in Vantaa (Finland). She also won the European Junior Championships in 2017 in Maribor (Slovenia).
In 2018, she made a name for herself by winning the European Senior Championship title in Tel Aviv (Israel). After being sidelined for more than a year due to injuries, she returned to competition in 2019. At the beginning of 2020, she won her 33rd and 34th medals by winning the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv, then the Grand Slam in Paris before becoming European champion again, in Prague (Czech Republic).
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021), Romane Dicko won the bronze medal in her category. She was then crowned Olympic mixed team champion, alongside two other Paris Saint-Germain Judo athletes, Amandine Buchard and Teddy Riner. A few months earlier, in January, she had won the World Masters in Doha (Qatar). The 23-year-old judoka concluded 2021 with a team title for Paris Saint-Germain in the Europa League, held in Prague in December.
Romane Dicko became European champion for the third consecutive time in 2022 in Sofia (Bulgaria). She was again crowned champion at the Tel Aviv Grand Prix before winning the French 1st Division team championships at the end of May, an event in which Paris Saint-Germain achieved a historic double with victories in the women's and men's categories.
"I am very proud to continue my adventure within the Paris Saint-Germain family," said Romane Dicko following her extension. This season, we have achieved great performances with the Club, winning titles in the Europa League and the French team championships. I really enjoy working with our group of judokas and our staff. With them, I can have great ambitions for future events, starting with the next World Championships. I can't wait to continue to aim for the top with the Red and Blue kimono so that I can be the best athlete possible at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”
"Romane's extension is a great pleasure for the Club," said Djamel Bouras, President of Paris Saint-Germain Judo. We are very proud to be able to count in our ranks an athlete who embodies the future of our sport. Romane has had a great season and is undoubtedly the number 1 in her category at the moment. Like Amandine Buchard and Marie-Eve Gahié, she is also a true leader for our women's section, which shone last season in national and continental competitions. The next three years will be exciting for Romane and we will be there to support her on a daily basis with our staff."
