Paris Grand Slam : Two Parisian athletes crowned on the first day
Faiza Mokdar (-57 kg) and Luka Mkheidze (-60 kg) both won gold medals in their respective categories at the Paris Grand Slam at the Accor Arena on Friday 2nd February.
On this first day of the Paris Grand Slam, four Rouge et Bleu athletes were competing: Priscilla Gneto and Faiza Mokdar in the women's -57kg category, and Luka Mkheidze and Walid Khyar in the men's -60kg and -66kg categories respectively.
Faiza Mokdar won the gold medal by beating Canadian Christa Deguchi in the final. In the same category, her club team-mate Priscilla Gneto lost in the third round to the other Canadian judoka, Jessica Klimkait.
On the mens' side, Luka Mkheidze also shone, winning the -60 kg title. The native of Tbilisi (Georgia) beat South Korea's Harim Lee in the final of the Paris event.
In the next weight category up, the -66 kg, Walid Khyar was beaten in the third round by Japan's Joshiro Maruyama, one of the event's eventual finalists.
Tomorrow, Saturday 3rd February, for the second day of competition, five Parisian athletes will be competing: Lucy Renshall (GBR) in the -63kg class, Marie-Ève Gahié and Margaux Pinot in the -70kg class, Arnaud Aregba and, finally, Alpha Djalo in the -81kg class.
Six Rouge et Bleu athletes will be competing at the close of the competition on Sunday: Audrey Tcheuméo and Lyse Versmisse in the under-78kg category, Romane Dicko in the over-78kg category, Lasha Bekauri (GEO) and Alexis Mathieu in the under-90kg category, and Teddy Riner in the over-100kg category.
