Alpha Djalo extends his contract with Paris Saint-Germain Judo

Paris Saint-Germain Judo is delighted to announce Alpha Djalo has signed a two-year contract extension. The 2021 French champion, who competes in the under 81kg category, is now tied to the Club until 31 August 2024.

Alpha Djalo won the French junior title in 2016, and the senior bronze the following year. In 2018, he repeated that performance before reaching the Grand Slam final in Düsseldorf (Germany). That result propelled him into the recent European and world championships.

In November 2021, Alpha Djalo won his first French title in Perpignan. He then played a leading role in the French team Division 1 championships in Villebon-sur-Yvette (Essonne), during which Paris Saint-Germain won both the men’s and women’s titles. Alpha Djalo ended the season on a positive note by winning the Grand Prix in Zagreb (Croatia) in July. Thanks to that victory, he earned a place in the men’s team for the world championships in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in October

“It’s a real reward for me personally to extend my contract with Paris Saint-Germain,” said Alpha Djalo after signing his new deal. “I’m proud of the season I have just had, both individually and in team competition. I’ve got some big new challenges coming up, such as the worlds in October, and also some important competitions with the Club. I’m looking forward to being able to continue training with all the great athletes that make up Paris Saint-Germain Judo. We were able to create a great team spirit last year, which you saw in our double triumphs in the Europa League and the French championships. It’s up to us to reproduce those sorts of performances to show Paris is a stronghold of world judo.”

“This is a well-deserved contract extension for Alpha,” said Djamel Bouras, President of Paris Saint-Germain Judo. “Alpha has had his fair share of injuries, and in spite of that, he has been able to bounce back and achieve some great things. He showed his strength of character all last season, notably with a day of great bouts at the French team championships in May. His recent selection for the world championships confirms his potential and the faith we have in him for the coming years. I’m sure he will continue his progress and claim some major medals in the months and years to come.”
