Alexis Mathieu joins Paris Saint-Germain Judo
Paris Saint-Germain Judo are delighted to announce the signature of Alexis Mathieu for two seasons. The 2021 French champion, who competes in the under-90kg category, is tied to the Club until 31 August 2024.
Alexis Mathieu came to the fore in 2018 when he became UNSS French champion, and junior French team and individual silver medallist. The same year, he claimed a bronze at the senior French championships. The 22-year-old confirmed his progress in 2019 as he finished with silver medals at both the junior and senior French championships. He also won gold at the European Cup in Tallinn (Estonia).
Last season, the New Caledonia-born judoka won the senior French title in November in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), after winning silver at the team world championships in Budapest (Hungary) in June.
“I feel very proud to be signing for such a prestigious club,” said Alexis Mathieu. “It’s a great opportunity for me to develop alongside some of the very best athletes in the sport. I can also benefit from the support of the top quality staff. Paris Saint-Germain are a very ambitious club with great goals for the season to come. We share the same values and I’ll be determined to do justice to the colours of this great institution.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Alexis into the PSG family,” said Djamel Bouras, President of Paris Saint-Germain Judo. “Since the start of his career, Alexis has been on an upward trajectory with constant and dynamic improvement. His French title, won in Perpignan in November, is the perfect illustration of that. His signature today is a sign of his and the Club’s ambition. We’ll be by his side to accompany him in his future challenges, with all the determination that characterises us.”
