Benoit Kounkoud extends deal through to 2022

Paris Saint-Germain are pleased to announce the extension of Benoît Kounkoud’s contract for three more seasons. The right-winger is now linked to the Club through to 2022.

After coming up through Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy, Benoît Kounkoud made his Lidl StarLigue debut in 2014, aged just 17. The man from the Indian Ocean island of Réunion, currently in his fifth season with the Club, is a key figure in the senior squad along with the likes of Luc Abalo, Mikkel Hansen and Thierry Omeyer.

With Les Rouge et Bleu, the right-winger has won 11 titles: four consecutive French league titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), two Coupes de France (2015, 2018), two Coupes de la Ligue (2017, 2018) and two Trophées des Champions (2015, 2016).

Benoît Kounkoud first represented his country at youth level, becoming an U20 European Champion in 2014 and an U21 World Champion in 2015 before earning a call-up to Claude Onesta’s senior France team for the 2016 European Championships.

“I’m feeling a lot of pride and emotions today,” confided Benoît Kounkoud after penning his new deal. “I’m very happy to continue the adventure with Paris Saint-Germain; I’m very attached to the red and blue shirt. Since I left Réunion, I have been through the Club’s youth academy, made my senior debut and won a number of titles. I want to continue winning alongside my teammates and the coaching staff. Here at Paris, we have all the ingredients to keep doing just that.”

“We’re proud to extend Benoit Kounkoud’s contract,” smiled Paris Saint-Germain General Manager Jean-Claude Blanc. “He’s a graduate of our youth academy who is now one of the very best in his position. He has improved in leaps and bounds since joining the senior squad. With his talent and his personality, Benoît has become a key member of our squad aged just 21. We’re counting on him in the current season and in those to come as we all look to add more silverware to the Club’s trophy cabinet.”
