23 OUT OF 23: BEST START TO THE SEASON IN THE HISTORY OF THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP
With Sunday's victory at Cesson-Rennes (23-30) in Liqui Moly Starligue Round 23 action, Paris Saint-Germain Handball set a new record for the best start to a season in the history of the French championship. Les Rouge et Bleu have won the first 23 matches of their Starligue season.
Luka Karabatic and his teammates improved on their own record of 22 wins from as many league matches, set last season.
On the road at seventh-placed Cesson-Rennes' Métropole Handball, Raul Gonzalez's men won (23-30), thus clinching a 23rd success in a row since the start of the 2021-2022 season.
With seven games remaining, the Parisians are currently clear atop the Liqui Moly Starligue table and have a nine-point lead over HBC Nantes. Les Rouge et Bleu are in the running to win an eighth consecutive national title and thus improve on their record-breaking streak, held since their seventh-straight title, in 2020-2021.
"This new unbeaten run marks the history of the Club and of French handball," said Jean-Claude Blanc, the deputy chief officer of Paris Saint-Germain. "Having already set a record last year, our team has succeeded in setting the bar even higher. Such an achievement illustrates the high standards and the spirit of conquest displayed on a daily basis by our staff and players. The competitiveness of our championship, where no team is safe from a defeat, reinforces the significance of this performance. On the strength of this achievement, we are approaching the end of the season with all the ambition and determination that characterise us."
