Renato Sanches loaned to SL Benfica

The Portuguese midfielder joins SL Benfica on a season-long loan with option to buy, from Paris Saint-Germain.

Renato Sanches came through the youth ranks at SL Benfica, making his debut for the Lisbon club's first team in October 2015. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular during the 2015/2016 season and helped the club win the Portuguese championship and League Cup double.

Transferred to Bayern Munich that summer, the Portugal international made 53 appearances for the Bavarian club and won nine trophies. Renato Sanches also spent the 2017/2018 season on loan at Premier League side Swansea City.

Renato Sanches finally discovered Ligue 1 when he joined Lille in August 2019. Over his three seasons in northern France, the midfielder made a total of 90 appearances (6 goals, 10 assists), winning the 2021 Ligue 1 title and the Trophée des Champions that same year.

Transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2022 summer transfer window, the Paris Saint-Germain No.18 made 27 appearances and scored 2 goals during the 2022/2023 season. On loan to AS Roma last season, Renato made 12 appearances and scored 1 goal.

The Lisbon-born midfielder received his first call up to the Portugal national team at the age of 18 in March 2016, before being selected by coach Fernando Santos to take part in Euro 2016. With his equaliser against Poland in the quarter-finals of the competition, which he would go on to win with Portugal, the midfielder became the youngest goalscorer in the knockout phase of a European championship.

Paris Saint-Germain would like to wish Renato Sanches every success with his new club.
