Paris Saint-Germain retains the French league title

With six games remaining in the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain have officially been crowned champions of France. The Rouge & Bleu have now won their thirteenth title in the French top flight, bringing the total number of trophies in their history to 53.

The Parisians won decisively at home against Angers SCO this evening, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Désiré Doué. With this win, PSG have widened the gap on second place, who are now 24 points behind, and can no longer catch up at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Unbeaten since the start of the season, Luis Enrique's men have set a new club record with 28 league matches without defeat and won their 13th domestic crown. The title joins those won in 1986, 1994, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Only the Parisians of the 2015-2016 season were officially crowned champions earlier in the history of Ligue 1, with eight games to go.

With this latest trophy, PSG have now won 53 trophies, 35 of them since Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over in 2011. Since then, the Rouge & Bleu have achieved the remarkable feat of finishing top of the league on eleven of the last fourteen occasions.

This year, by combining the excellence of its young talent with the strength of its team, symbolised by its 18 different goalscorers, Paris Saint-Germain has dominated the rankings: the club from the capital has the best attack, including the top scorer in the league, the best defence and the best team at home and away.

France's most successful club, PSG have already secured the second title of their 2024-2025 season, following on from the Trophée des Champions won on 5 January against Monaco (1-0) at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar. French champions, qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League (with a double-header against Aston Villa scheduled for 9 and 15 April), and semi-finalists in the Coupe de France (with a match against USL Dunkerque on 1 April), captain Marquinhos - who becomes the first player in history to win the French championship 10 times - and his team-mates remain in contention in each of the competitions in which they were involved at the start of the season. The quest for success continues. True to its ambition for excellence, Paris Saint-Germain continues to write its history.
