Georginio Wijnaldum joins Al-Ettifaq FC

Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum has joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq FC on a permanent transfer.

Wijnaldum made his professional debut with Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he plied his trade for five seasons before moving to PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and staying there until 2015. The midfielder then made the switch to English football, initially joining Newcastle United for the 2015–2016 campaign before a move to Liverpool, where he made 237 appearances across five seasons and most notably won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.

After finishing third at the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands, the Rotterdam native signed for Paris Saint-Germain in June 2021. He would go on to make 38 appearances for the capital club, scoring three goals and notching up the same number of assists as well as helping his side to the Ligue 1 title in 2022. After a single season with Les Rouge et Bleu, Wijnaldum was loaned out to AS Roma for the 2022–2023 campaign.
