Abdou Diallo signs for Paris Saint-Germain until 30 June 2024
Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the arrival of Abdou Diallo to the enior squad. Arriving from Borussia Dortmund, the French defender signed a five-year contract that links him to the capital club until 30 June 2024.
Abdou Diallo, 23, came up through the youth academy at AS Monaco. He played a total of 19 matches in three seasons, notably helping to clinch the L1 title in 2017. During this Monegasque period, the Tours-born defender also spent some time on loan in Belgium, turning out for SV Zulte Waregem (35 matches, three goals) in 2015-2016.
In 2017, this 1.86m defender gave a new direction to his career by signing with FSV Mainz 05, for whom he went on to make 30 apperance (three goals) His talent made a mark on the Bundesliga and attracted the interest of its biggest sides, including Borussia Dortmund, whom he joined in the summer of 2018.
Under the direction of Swiss coach Lucien Favre, Abdou Diallo played 38 matches with Dortmund, showing off his versatility by playing both as a central defender and as a full-back. With the BvB, he will finish runner-up in the 2018-2019 German Championship.
In parallel with his club career, Abdou Diallo has climbed the ranks of the national teams to become a member of the French U-21 team (16 caps). Since joining the U-21 team in 2016, he has worn the captain's armband 13 times, participating in the entire qualifying campaign for the 2019 U-21 Euros, a competition in which the French team punched its ticket for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Abdou will wear the number 22 on his Rouge et Bleu jersey.
