THE PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN FOUNDATION STEPS UP ITS COMMITMENT TO ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM WITH A NEW MISSION IN MADAGASCAR
The Paris Saint-Germain Foundation is stepping up its commitment to Action Contre la Faim for the second year running, by helping to finance one of the charity’s programmes to combat malnutrition.
After a mission in the Central African Republic last season, which led to more than 80,000 children being tested and more than 4,000 being treated, the Club has today committed to helping children in Madagascar’s Great South.

The Parisian club has donated 80,000 euros to a programme rolled out by Action Contre la Faim in Madagascar, in the district of Toliara II, up until December 2020.
The Paris Saint-Germain Foundation’s donation will help improve the healthcare system and access to treatment, in order to prevent and treat malnutrition while teaching good health and hygiene practices in the region’s homes.
The whole of Madagascar is suffering from chronic food insecurity. The recent El Niño event – the strongest episode of this global warming phenomenon in 35 years – only aggravated the situation: the resulting drought led to a poor harvest and loss of livestock, and the high incidence of food insecurity has reached crisis point. Toliara II is one of the most affected districts, with 37% of its population requiring urgent action to protect their livelihood and ease food shortages in May 2018.
Sabrina Delannoy, Deputy Director of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, announced: "Following the wishes of our President, Nasser Al Khelaifi, the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation has adopted an international positioning since last season, and today we are developing our actions to help people who are suffering all over the world. Last year, the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation went to the Central African Republic, to Bangui, to finance a humanitarian programme run by Action Contre la Faim. This programme allowed more than 4,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition to be treated. For the second time, we are relying on Action Contre la Faim's expertise to take action in Madagascar, as the food and health crisis has torn this island apart over the last few years. We want to do our bit to fight this crisis together, ease the affected communities’ suffering, lift them up and help them recover their human dignity."
"Action Contre la Faim are delighted to be able to benefit once again from the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation’s contribution, which will enable them to continue their actions to help the most vulnerable populations in Madagascar's Great South, especially around Tuléar. In this region, we are developing projects that improve the healthcare system, food safety and access to clean water, hygiene and purification in order to treat cases of malnutrition. Every year, these projects help around 130,000 people," explained Jean-François Riffaud, General Manager of Action contre la Faim.
About the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation:
The Paris Saint-Germain Foundation was founded in 2000 and was the first corporate foundation to be created by a French sports club. It provides support for vulnerable or sick children, young people and disadvantaged communities. When Nasser Al Khelaifi took over as president of the Foundation in 2012, he enabled it to step up its work and an endowment fund was created to receive donations. Over the last 19 years, more than 230,000 children and young adults have benefitted from the programmes set up by the Foundation and/or the Paris Saint-Germain endowment fund. These two organisations run educational and sporting programmes in France and abroad, using sport and its values to help youngsters to learn, blossom and become upstanding members of the community. Whether through their social and professional inclusion programme, their ROUGE & BLEU Schools, their support for refugees or their donations to charities, Paris Saint-Germain draw on the educational and psychological benefits of sport to support sick or disadvantaged children.
About Action Contre la Faim:
Founded in 1979, our charity is an international non-governmental organisation that fights against world hunger. Its mission is to save lives and wipe out hunger by preventing, detecting and treating malnutrition, especially during and in the aftermath of crises such as wars and natural disasters.
Today, Action contre la Faim is a key leader in the global fight against hunger. Our international network conducts a coordinated response in around 50 different countries. Our priority is to take action on the ground and raise awareness about these populations’ plight.
Because hunger is caused by so many things, our response is multisectoral and utilises our considerable expertise.
