The Parc des Princes switches its lights off for the planet

On Saturday 30th March, the Parc des Princes took part in Earth Hour, the  largest citizens’ rally for the planet organised by the WWF. Every year, millions of people take part in the movement by switching off their lights, and thousands of iconic monuments are plunged into darkness for one hour. On Saturday, the lights were switched off in the Rouge & Bleu’s stadium from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

 

In 2017, at the initiative of the French Ministry of Sport and of WWF France, around 30 organisers – including the company that manages the Parc des Princes, the SESE, which is 100% owned by Paris Saint-Germain – signed an eco-responsibility charter for large sports facilities and host sites.

 

This charter commits the Parisian club to a virtuous circle of improvement based on 15 specific commitments regarding sustainable food, waste reduction, community involvement and providing a quality reception for disabled visitors.

 

List of the charter’s 15 eco-responsible commitments:

  • A minimum of 50% sustainable food
  • A minimum of 80% of all trips made using active mobility, public transport or car-pooling
  • 80% of purchases adhere to “responsible purchasing” selection criteria
  • 15% less waste produced and 40% of waste reused or recycled; 60% of food waste processed as organic waste
  • 100% of natural sites and green areas protected and/or 1 programme that promotes biodiversity
  • 100% of energy and water consumption controlled and optimised; 25% renewable or recycled energy
  • 100% of events and services proposed guarantee a reception of equal quality to disabled visitors  
  • 1 programme that is easily accessed by disadvantaged populations
  • (At least) 1 “eco-responsible” innovation tested
  • 1 programme that focuses on community involvement
  • 1 programme to identify and encourage discussion with local stakeholders
  • (At least) 1 commitment made to a charity
  • (At least) 1 action to promote equality and the fight against discrimination
  • 1 responsible equipment management action plan
  • 1 programme to raise awareness about eco-responsibility
