Paris Saint-Germain’s handball players visit patients at the Necker Hospital for sick children

On Thursday 31st January, the Paris Saint-Germain Handball players paid a visit to the young patients at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children. Organised within the framework of an agreement signed by the PSG Foundation and the Necker Hospital for Sick Children – AP-HP, which has just been extended until 2022, this annual visit is an opportunity to bring some comfort and joy to these young patients.

Joined by last Sunday’s World Championship medallists, Nikola and Luka Karabatic, Luc Abalo, Nedim Remili, Mikkel Hansen, Henrik Toft and Sander Sagosen, the squad went from room to room in small groups, spending time chatting and getting to know the young patients.

During the visit, Nikola Karabatic said, “It’s a really emotional day. The children’s strength of character, determination and courage is an example to us all. It makes us compare their situation to our own, and we hope to bring a bit of joy to their lives.”

“It’s important for us to come here to the Necker hospital,” said Nedim Remili. “It means a lot that we are able to give these children and their parents a bit of respite and reassurance. The time we spend with them and their parents creates unforgettable memories.”

About the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation

The first corporate foundation to be created by a French club, the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation has provided support for vulnerable young people for the last 19 years. To date, more than 220,000 children and young adults have benefitted from its educational and sporting programmes, both in France and abroad.

The Foundation’s main missions are:

  • To accompany young people in their social and professional integration – More than 300 educators have come through the Foundation’s occupational integration programmes. These youngsters, who have all completed diploma courses in social and sports coaching, are now transmitting their experience to the new generation.
  • To reach out to underprivileged children – The Foundation’s instructors work at ground level, taking part in targeted programmes such as “Allez les filles”, “Dream Day” and “PSG Holidays”. The Foundation has added another string to its bow with the ROUGE & BLEU School project, an innovative after-school programme that combines sporting and educational activities in order to help children succeed at school.
  • To bring comfort to sick children – Every season, the professional players’ eagerly-awaited visits to hospitals in the greater Paris region provide a ray of sunshine in these children’s lives, as do the invitations to come and meet the players at the stadium and training centre. Players from the three Paris Saint-Germain teams are always keen to offer these sick children a bit of comfort. The Foundation works closely with its partner, the Necker Hospital for Sick Children, and with around thirty other specialist charities.
